About Us

Learn why GetAspectRatio.com was created and how our free aspect ratio calculator helps creators work with accurate dimensions.

A Small Tool for a Common Problem

GetAspectRatio.com was created to make proportional resizing quick and understandable. Designers, video editors, photographers, developers, marketers, and students regularly need to convert dimensions without stretching an image or guessing the correct height. The calculator turns that repeated task into a clear answer.

Enter a width and height to find the simplified aspect ratio, decimal value, orientation, and closest common format. Enter one new dimension and the calculator solves the other while keeping the original proportions. A visual frame makes the result easier to understand before you export or resize anything.

Built for Speed and Privacy

The calculator runs in your browser. It does not require an account, and you do not upload an image or video to calculate its ratio. Shareable links store only the dimensions in the URL so a calculation can be reopened or sent to a collaborator.

The site also provides practical references for common image, screen, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube formats. Platform guidance can change, so we review reference content and aim to describe specifications clearly without pretending that one ratio fits every placement.

Our Approach

We favor precise results, accessible controls, useful explanations, and a lightweight page over unnecessary features. The calculator is free to use and designed to work across desktop and mobile browsers.

How We Calculate and Check Results

The simplified ratio uses the greatest common divisor of the input dimensions. Decimal dimensions are first multiplied by a shared power of ten, so a 2.5 × 3.5 print produces 5:7 rather than rounding the inputs. Proportional resizing uses the original ratio and rounds only the final output to a whole pixel. The worked examples on the homepage explain where that rounding affects the result.

The tool accepts positive dimensions up to one billion with at most six decimal places. It calculates dimensions; it does not modify or export your image files. Reference formats are starting points, and the closest-standard suggestion does not prove that a source has that exact ratio.

Corrections and Reference Sources

Send a reproducible calculation or a changed platform specification to hello@getaspectratio.com. Include the inputs, actual result, expected result, and a source link where relevant. Platform guidance should be checked before export; YouTube's resolution and aspect ratio documentation explains how its player handles different shapes.
