1920×1080 Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Calculator

Find the 1920×1080 aspect ratio (16:9), see the reduction steps, and calculate resized dimensions without stretching.

1920 × 1080 is a landscape resolution with 2,073,600 pixels. It simplifies to 16:9, not 4:3. It describes pixel dimensions; the ratio describes the frame’s proportions.

1920 × 1080 has a 16:9 aspect ratio. Width ÷ height = 1.777778. Height is 56.25% of width.

How the ratio is calculated

1920 ÷ 120 = 16; 1080 ÷ 120 = 9. Dividing both sides by the same value preserves the proportions and gives 16:9. 120 is the greatest common divisor of these dimensions.

Height = width × 9 ÷ 16. Width = height × 16 ÷ 9. These formulas change size without changing shape. They do not crop or pad the source.

Full HD: scaling and framing

A 1280 × 720 export is two-thirds of the original width and height. It preserves 16:9 and contains 921,600 pixels. A 1440 × 1080 output would change the geometry unless you crop or pad. Some legacy video stores non-square pixels, so displayed proportions may differ from stored dimensions. This tool assumes square pixels.

Ratio, resolution and units

A ratio compares width with height; it does not describe file size, compression or image quality. Enter both sides in pixels, inches or another matching unit. This calculator assumes square pixels for digital images. Video with a non-square pixel aspect ratio needs its display aspect ratio checked separately.
