16:10 Aspect Ratio Calculator for Screens

Calculate 16:10 dimensions such as 1920×1200 and 2560×1600, and compare the shape with 16:9 widescreen.

16:10 is a landscape shape with a decimal ratio of 1.6. Its simplest mathematical form is 8:5, but 16:10 is a familiar label for screens. This guide shows both forms so they are not mistaken for different shapes.

16:10 uses the same shape as 8:5. Width ÷ height = 1.6. Height is 62.5% of width.

How the ratio is calculated

1920 ÷ 240 = 8; 1200 ÷ 240 = 5. Dividing both sides by the same value preserves the proportions and gives 8:5. 240 is the greatest common divisor of these dimensions.

Height = width × 5 ÷ 8. Width = height × 8 ÷ 5. These formulas change size without changing shape. They do not crop or pad the source.

More height at the same width

1920 × 1200 and 2560 × 1600 are exact 16:10 examples. Compared with a 1920 × 1080 16:9 frame, the first size provides 120 additional rows at the same width. How useful those rows are depends on your layout and application, not the ratio alone.

Why the calculator returns 8:5

Both 16 and 10 divide by two. The calculator reduces ratios to their simplest form, so 1920 × 1200 returns 8:5. The labels 8:5 and 16:10 represent the same proportional relationship, just as 32:18 and 16:9 do.

Displaying a widescreen video

A 1920 × 1080 video placed inside a 1920 × 1200 canvas without cropping leaves 120 rows of extra height. Centering the video produces 60 rows of padding above and below. Filling the entire canvas instead requires a crop or distortion.

Decimal heights are displayed to four decimal places. Rounding can change the final ratio slightly. For an exact integer result, use dimensions that are whole-number multiples of 8:5.
