3:2 Aspect Ratio Calculator for Photos & Prints

Calculate 3:2 photo dimensions, scale a 6000×4000 image, and plan prints without stretching or unexpected cropping.

3:2 is a landscape frame with a width one and a half times its height. A 6000 × 4000 photograph and a 6 × 4 print share the same proportions, even though the measurements use different units.

3:2 uses the same shape as 3:2. Width ÷ height = 1.5. Height is 66.6667% of width.

How the ratio is calculated

6000 ÷ 2000 = 3; 4000 ÷ 2000 = 2. Dividing both sides by the same value preserves the proportions and gives 3:2. 2000 is the greatest common divisor of these dimensions.

Height = width × 2 ÷ 3. Width = height × 3 ÷ 2. These formulas change size without changing shape. They do not crop or pad the source.

Pixel size and physical print size

A 6 × 4 inch print is 3:2. At 300 pixels per inch, its corresponding pixel dimensions are 1800 × 1200. Keep both inputs in the same unit when simplifying a ratio. Inches and pixels cannot be mixed in one width-to-height calculation without a separate conversion.

Preparing an image for another frame

A 6000 × 4000 source can be resized to 1500 × 1000 without cropping. To make a 4:3 composition at the original height, crop the width to approximately 5333.33 before pixel rounding. Check the subject position first, particularly if important details are near the left or right edge.

Portrait orientation is 2:3

Rotating a 3:2 frame swaps its dimensions and makes the ratio 2:3. A 4000 × 6000 image is therefore portrait, not landscape 3:2. Choose the matching orientation before ordering a print or setting a layout container.

Decimal heights are displayed to four decimal places. Rounding can change the final ratio slightly. For an exact integer result, use dimensions that are whole-number multiples of 3:2.
