2:3 Aspect Ratio Calculator & Portrait Dimensions

Find 2:3 portrait dimensions, verify 512×768, and scale photos or print layouts while keeping the correct shape.

A 2:3 frame is two units wide and three units tall. Its height is 1.5 times its width. The 512 × 768 image in the calculator reduces exactly to 2:3 after dividing both dimensions by 256.

2:3 uses the same shape as 2:3. Width ÷ height = 0.666667. Height is 150% of width.

There is no single pixel size for a 2:3 frame. These width × height pairs all simplify exactly to 2:3. Choose a size to open it in the full calculator.

Use the resizing calculator above for a custom dimension. Changing both sides independently can distort the image; changing one side proportionally preserves the ratio.

How the ratio is calculated

512 ÷ 256 = 2; 768 ÷ 256 = 3. Dividing both sides by the same value preserves the proportions and gives 2:3. 256 is the greatest common divisor of these dimensions.

Height = width × 3 ÷ 2. Width = height × 2 ÷ 3. These formulas change size without changing shape. They do not crop or pad the source.

From a small image to a larger layout

512 × 768, 800 × 1200 and 2000 × 3000 all share this portrait shape. At 1000 pixels wide, a 2:3 output is 1500 pixels high. Enlarging a 512 × 768 source to that size increases its pixel dimensions but cannot reconstruct detail absent from the original.

A portrait print example

A 4 × 6 inch print is 2:3 when the shorter side is the width. At 300 pixels per inch, 1200 × 1800 is a matching digital size. If your original image is 4:5, it will need cropping or padding to fit this taller print frame without distortion.

Compared with a 9:16 frame

Both shapes are portrait, but 9:16 is narrower relative to its height. Cropping 800 × 1200 to 9:16 keeps 675 × 1200 and removes 62.5 pixels from each side before rounding. Do not treat all portrait presets as interchangeable.

Decimal heights are displayed to four decimal places. Rounding can change the final ratio slightly. For an exact integer result, use dimensions that are whole-number multiples of 2:3.
